The carefully balanced formula provides 19 important nutrients, including 400 µg folic acid and 10 µg vitamin D3, alongside iron, zinc, iodine, magnesium and essential B vitamins.
Folic acid contributes to maternal tissue growth during pregnancy and has a role in the process of cell division. Supplemental folic acid intake increases maternal folate status, with low maternal folate status recognised as a risk factor in the development of neural tube defects in the developing foetus.
Pregnacare Original also contains iron, magnesium and niacin, which contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Vitamins B2 and B12 contribute to normal red blood cell formation, while vitamins B1 and B6 support normal energy-yielding metabolism.

The formula uses beta-carotene as a source of vitamin A, rather than preformed vitamin A (retinol).
